Apple MacBook

MacBook is the name for an entire gamut of Macintosh notebook computer by Apple Incorporation. This range of MacBook encompasses the low end 13 inch screen MacBook, the high end 15 inch and 17 inch MacBook Pro and the lightweight 13 inch MacBook Air.

Specifications

The display is 13.3 inch glossy widescreen that has a 1280 X 800 pixel resolution. The hard disk drive may be of 80 GB or 120 GB or 160 GB. It has an Intel GMA X3100 graphics processor with 144 MB of DDR2 SDRAM shared memory. The memory is 1 GB (2 X 512) stock. The processor is 2.0 GHz and 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. The weight of the device is 5.0 pounds i.e. 2.27 kg. The combo drive is 8x DVD read, 24x CD-R and 16x CD-RW recording. The airport extreme is Integrated 802.11a/b/g and draft-n. The Internal Slot-loading superdrive is as follows – 4x DVD+R DL writes, 8x DVD+- R read, 4x DVD+- RW writes, 24x CD-R and 10x CD-RW recording.

Apple MacBook - Display

This was the first Apple device to be portable and have a glossy display simultaneously. The reflective characteristics of these displays enhance the color saturation. This type of display has a narrow viewing angle. It reflects lighting glare.

Keyboard

The keyboard has a novel sunken design. The keyboard cannot be removed. Every key is integrated in the casing. The keys are separated by a distance of 1.5 mm. The most recent keyboard is similar to the keyboard that is sent with the iMac and has similar hot keys. For the white model, there are grey letters and for the black model there are white letters.

Apple MacBook - Processor

The MacBook has an Intel GMA X3100 integrated graphics processor. Many popular games can be played using this processor. If the Windows Vista operating system is used, the Aero Graphical User Interface can be worked with. This chip is less expensive than GPU solutions from nVidia and ATI. It has a dearth of video memory. However, it is suitable for video playback and needs less power for operation.

Servicing

The parts are easy to dissemble. After the outer shell is removed, any interior part can be reached. From the bottom side, the internal hard drive and RAM can be reached. These parts can be replaced by the end user without breaking the terms of the warranty. The keyboard is integrated into the laptop and cannot be removed or replaced.

Comparison between MacBook and MacBook Pro

The MacBook Pro is costlier than the MacBook. The lid of the MacBook is held by a magnet and there is no mechanical latch. The lid of the MacBook Pro is closed by traditional actuated magnetic hooks. The MacBook Pro has a bigger screen. Hence, the display resolution is more. The MacBook has a resolution of 1280 X 800. The MacBook Pro of 15.4 inches has a resolution of 1440 X 900 and that of 17 inches has a resolution of 1680 X 1050 or 1920 X 1200. The Pro has a FireWire 800 port, an illuminated keyboard and an ExpressCard/34 slot.
